A Marvelous Bar Takeover Night by Agung Prabowo at Barong Bar

Featuring world-class award-winning mixologist and founder of The Old Man Hong Kong, Agung Prabowo, Barong Bar at Fairmont Jakarta has held another bar takeover on July 23rd 2018.

Known for its masterfully crafted cocktails, Barong Bar has always been one of the most visited places in the city. Innovatively complementing the concept and ambiance of the bar, Agung Prabowo has presented his alluring signature cocktails. The renowned bartender’s creations were inspired by the memory of distinguished writer, Ernest Hemingway, who was also known as a sophisticated drinker during the era, a local connoisseur who sought out the best bars.

Agung Prabowo had set the concept of The Old Man Hong Kong to pay tribute to Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning fictional work, The Old Man and the Sea. No doubt, the speakeasy bar is a space which connects cocktail enthusiast to the novels, history and folklore using culinary gears and unique ingredients. The drinks crafted at the bar use Asian spices, giving out a distinctive bold flavors. The Hong Kong’s most celebrated bar, The Old Man, has received multiple awards including winner of Best Cocktail Bar 2017 by Tattler Magazine, and just recently ranked as 5th of the “Asia’s 50 Best Bar Awards” 2018 (Highest New Entry) by William Reed.

During the bar takeover at Barong Bar, Agung Prabowo has crafted his signature cocktails which were inspired by the the memory of a distinguished writer, Ernest Hemingway.

During the bar takeover night, guests experienced various exotic and unique cocktails by Agung Prabowo, priced at IDR 150,000 ++ per glass. One of the highlighted cocktail was the one inspired by the tropical concoction of coconut oil fat-washed applejack, curry leaf infused Gin, sweet vermouth sous-vide pandan leaves and lime kaffir – The Sun Also Rises.  The cocktail was titled after a novel written in 1926.

Another refreshing treat was named after Hemingway’s piece which was written in 1935, The Green Hills of Africa – made with a perfect combination of rosemary infused Pisco, turmeric & tamarind cordial and citrus. There was also The Snows of Kilimanjaro, which was published in 1936 – the cocktail united sweet and tangy flavor through the blending of marshmallows Gin, lacto-fermented raspberry, citrus and gruyere.

The night was indeed a time journey to the word-celebrating classic era guided by the bartender’s magic hand.
