China’s Exquisite Alila Yangshuo Crowned ‘Best Resort’ at 2019 AHEAD Global Awards

With views out of a Chinese painting and luxurious villas, Alila Yangshuo wins two awards at the 2019 AHEAD Global Awards.

Alila Yangshuo in China’s Guangxi region was crowned both ‘Best Resort’ and ‘Global Ultimate Winner’ at the 2019 AHEAD Global Awards on the 29th of January this year. The AHEAD Awards judges assessed the hospitality, experience of design for each entry over four regional award and a final global award. The award was presented in the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho, London with results announced simultaneously in New York.

First a working sugar mill, Alila Yangshuo was reimagined and transformed into a retro but contemporary resort overlooking the breathtaking views of the Li River. Alila means ‘surprise’ in Sanskrit, which is the affect the landscapes from the resort have on visitors. On the property there are views resembling a Chinese painting; with Karst mountain, green hills and glistening rivers it is almost like paradise on Earth.

Picture perfect views from the rooms resemble works of art

With 117 modest but elegant rooms, suits and villas, it is the ideal place to rest after getting pampered at Alila Spa inspired by Yangshuo’s karst caves or swimming in the pool. The Sugar House restaurant is located in the historical Sugar Pressing room with local and international cuisines prepared with seasonal farm-to-table ingredients.

The prestigious AHEAD Global Awards was the final round of the AHEAD Awards. The finalists were selected in a series of regional rounds, held between 2017 and 2018 in Asia, the Americas, MEA and Europe. The shortlisted nominees in the Global Awards were selected through strict criterion from more than 1600 entries, from more than 600 projects in 87 countries, assessed by 67 judges. Alila Zhejiang, also part of Alila family, was also a contender for the ‘Best Resort’ AHEAD Award.
