World Tapas Day with Gran Meila Jakarta

In honour of a worldwide celebration, World Tapas Day was celebrated in Gran Meila Jakarta with delectable food, good community, and an energetic atmosphere.

On 21st June 2018, Gran Melia Jakarta invited guests to gather for an evening celebration of Tapas Barbeque Night at El Bombon. As one of Spain’s rich culinary tradition, Spanish Chef David Fernandez Losas lined-up authentic tapas each designed to introduce a new mix of fresh and flavourful ingredients.

Tapas are Spain’s mini-cuisines, or small portion of food that can be categorized as snacks or appetizers that has been ingrained in Spanish culture. This hugely popular culinary delicacies are meant to encourage the social experience and commonly enjoyed with chilled beers, sangria or a glass of wine. World Tapas Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of June as an occasion to commemorate and enjoy the Spanish gastronomy across the globe.

Chef David Fernandez Losa helped create a lively and flavourful ambiance with his cooking demonstration during the evening.

During this night, guests were treated to a wide array of flavours and smells that had everyone coming back for seconds. With a backdrop of EL Bombon by the pool, the treats provided for the night include the chef’s signature Spanish Tapas such as Pintxo of Sardine marinated with green apple and mint, Spanish-russian salad and mayonnaise foam, Pintxo of crispy artichoke with manchego texture, Idiazabal’s cubes and tomato chutney, Beer tartar with greek yogurt and grilled prawns as well as creamy salmorejo with pork hand and crispy bread.

Many different types of tapas and other small dishes were prepared around El Bombon to let guests roam around and mingle while enjoying all the delicious flavours.

Other delectable Spanish dishes presented include a selection of premium Ibericos, the mouth-watering Paella Valenciana at dynamic station, alongside freshly barbecued Spanish chorizo, scallop in basque style, calcots in romescu sauce, grilled gambas with garlic oil and mini bagel of pork belly and kimchi.

A delightful dessert station was also showcased with Spanish churros, Tejas, Asturias Casadielles to Caramelized Torrijas.

With such a wide array of flavours, all the guests enjoyed a night of festive and interactive cuisine with laidback atmosphere.
