Award-Winning Mixologist Agung Prabowo to ‘Takeover’ MO Bar

Agung Prabowo of the renowned bar, The Old Man in Hong Kong, returns to Jakarta for a one-night takeover at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta on February 27, 2019.

If you have in mind a night of good cocktails unlike any other, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Agung Prabowo’s takeover in MO Bar at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, where the award-winning mixologist is set to present his signature cocktails for the city’s residents. The co-founder of the renowned The Old Man in Hong Kong is returning to Jakarta later this month for this one-night only event.

The Old Man opened its doors to the public in 2017, and has since taken the cocktail scene by the storm. The speakeasy ranked fifth on the 2018 edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, and recently debuted on the prestigious The World’s 50 Best Bars 2018 as The Highest New Entry List. Less than two years since its debut, The Old Man has become known for its innovative drinks and unique approach to mixology.

During the one-night takeover at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s MO Bar, Agung Prabowo will present his signature cocktails, which offers a unique take on Hemingway’s oeuvre.

Agung Prabowo is one of the bar’s co-founders, which had been a passion project created by him along with partners James Tamang and Roman Ghale. He previously managed the Oriental Bar, which was later renamed to MO Bar, at Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, before moving to MO Bar at The Landmark Hong Kong and The Chinnery at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. He is well-known for his expertise in the industry, and was recently named one of the Top 10 Bartenders in Hong Kong and was Asia’s Bartender of the Year in 2018.

The Old Man is inspired by the life of writer Ernest Hemingway, and at MO Bar later this month, guests will get to taste Agung’s unique take on Hemingway’s oeuvre through the tastes, smells and colours of the cocktails he will be crafting. One of them is the Garden of Eden #1985, which pays homage to a Hemingway written work set in the south of France in 1927. This drink infuses rotovap honeydew rye whiskey with goat’s milk bourbon, caramelised sauterne, cordial and orange-phosphate bitter.

At one of Jakarta’s most fashionable nightspots, Agung will also present For Whom the Bell Tolls #1940, which draws inspiration from the Pulitzer-nominated book of that title, and offers an inspiring combination of cocoa nib sous-vide Batavia arrack, sour strawberry, rotovap burnt butter rum, and avocado burst. Are you already craving for a glass?

Don’t miss out on this exciting new experience from the award-winning mixologist Agung Prabowo in Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s own MO Bar. For more information and to make your reservations, please contact +622129938827 or email mojkt-mobar@mohg.com.
