Garima Arora, executive chef and founder of Gaa in Bangkok, will be crowned elitTM Vodka Asia’s Best Female Chef 2019 by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants on Tuesday, March 26th in Wynn Resorts Macao, Hong Kong. In an event sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, the leading natural mineral waters in the fine dining world, the 50 Best organization along with elitTM Vodka celebrates role models who demonstrate a progressive vision for gastronomy.
Having worked at Noma Copenhagen alongside the renowned chef René Redzepi and in Gaggan, the award-winning Bangkok restaurant that was crowned Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for four consecutive years after graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Paris in 2010, Garima Arora’s distinctive fusion were learned in some of the finest kitchens in Europe and Asia.
Exploring her cultural heritage as well as the community surrounding her, Garima Arora presents a modern tasting menu that combines traditional Indian cooking technique with Thai ingredients in her restaurant Gaa. William Drew, the Group Editor of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants mentioned that Garima’s distinctive blend had greatly impacted Asia’s dining scene in such a short period, thus earning her the prestigious award of Asia’s Best Female Chef.
Founded in April 2017, Gaa, the three-storey restaurant across Gaggan offers a 10- or 14-course tasting menu that changes quarterly following the seasonal specialties. Hence, Gaa’s dining experience is one of its kind that reflected the restaurant’s innovative, modern, playful and unpredictable nature. Gaa earned its first Michelin star in November 2018 thus making Garima Arora the first Indian woman to win such an accolade.
Accepting the prestigious Best Female Chef award, Garima Arora said that the award is a validation of Gaa’s team hard work and commitment to excellence and that she is honoured to be presented the award.
