Sweet Sensation In The Darkness at The Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa

A bold innovation of one-of-a-kind dining experience from the Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa will make all your senses tingle

The Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa pushes the boundaries of innovation in dining and hospitality by proudly presenting Bali’s first ever ‘Dine in The Dark’ event, an exceptional six-course sensory dinner experience for which the Resort will be flipping the switch and inviting you to discover food in a whole new way—all the while with your eyes closed. You will be invited into the dark dining room, without any light. Your optic nerve will be overridden, causing your remaining senses to be heightened which allow you to savour the aroma, texture, sensations and taste of your food more thoroughly, while at the same time trying to guess what exactly you are eating.

Sounds and movements will also play a big part. The dark room encourages you to pay closer attention to your surroundings. Deprived from your visual sense, you will rely on your other senses to guide you. Specially crafted by Executive Chef Joshua Job, the secret six-course degustation menu has been thoughtfully designed to focus on texture, aroma and flavours, as a trade-off for the visual presentation. Your intensified level of awareness will take you on a journey of discovery, enriched by fine wine pairings. You will be served and guided by a team of highly trained, visually impaired staff.

A bold innovation of one-of-a-kind dining experience from the Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa will make all your senses tingle

If you are wondering, it turns out that having a meal in pitch darkness is not a new fad—the idea of purposefully eating in complete darkness started in Zurich in 1999 with blind clergyman, Jorge Spielmann. When guests ate at his home, they wore blindfolds in order to have better understanding about his world. The guests discovered that without their sight, their sense of taste and smell was heightened and made the meal more enjoyable.

Dare to try something different? The dinner will take approximately 90 to 120 minutes and already launched in March during Nyepi, which is priced at IDR 700,000++ per person. Wine pairing is available for an additional IDR 400,000++ per person. Pre-bookings of tables can be done by email via fbadmin@theseminyak.com or call +62 361 730 814.
