Txoko Jakarta Introduces the City to Authentic Spanish Basque Cuisine

Opened in March 2019, Txoko is a Spanish restaurant serving authentic Basque cuisine with the best quality products and ingredients in Senopati, South Jakarta.

Spain is known for its delicious and seafood heavy cuisine, many travellers, specifically those who travel for food are willing to travel thousands of kilometers away to Spain, not only to enjoy the atmosphere but also to enjoy the typical local food of the country.

To help food enthusiasts in Indonesia to sample a  plate of authentic Spanish cuisine without having to go all the way to Spain, Oskar Urzelai, an experienced Spanish chef who currently lives in Jakarta, finally opened a Spanish restaurant, Txoko in March 2019. Located at Jl. Suryo No.6, Kebayoran Baru, Txoko offers authentic dishes from the Basque Country, a unique part of Spain located on the country’s northern coast.

A special at Txoko is there Seaweed and Squid Mellow Rice.

Like many places in Spain, Basque Country has its own culture, identity, food and even language. In recent years, the Basque Country has become famous for its cuisine. Food has always been a high priority for people living in the Basque Country, and their respect for their gastronomic heritage is only equated with their enthusiasm for finding new methods and ideas.

The restaurant, Txoko is named after a private gastronomic society in the Basque Country where friends and family come together to cook, experiment with new ways of cooking, eat and socialize called txoko in the Basque language (pronounced “cho-ko” and literally translates to “cozy corner”). The chef himself is from San Sebastian, one of the provinces in Basque Country that has become well-known for its excellent cuisine. Txoko Jakarta offers various types of tapas and pintxos (pronounced “pinchos”, Basque-style tapas, topped with a variety of different ingredients).
