The Best Hotels to Stay In During the Balinese Day of Silence

As silence descend upon the island, Bali’s inhabitants – be it residents or visitors – are compelled to spend the day immersed in the sort of peace and tranquility that makes this holiday a truly one-of-a-kind ceremony to welcome the new year. While one can easily recall Bali as a spot bustling with tourists from all over the world, it might be a challenge to think of it as something else entirely – but Nyepi provides new perspectives in how long-standing traditions can call upon the thrill of the unfamiliar.

As Nyepi calls for something anew, and for individuals to ponder upon the self and his or her surroundings, hotels and resorts in Bali have prepared special packages to accompany guests looking for a mix of the Nyepi experience and the wonders of a quick getaway during the holiday. Eat Vacation has selected some of the best places to stay during the Balinese Day of Silence this year:

The ANVAYA Beach Resort

On March 7th, the day before Nyepi, The ANVAYA Beach Resort invites you enjoy Kuta’s Ogoh-Ogoh parade that symbolises the exile of evil spirits and demons from the island. At the resort’s Kunyit Restaurant, a Nyepi Eve Dinner buffet is served for a dinner of champions! For those who want to luxuriate for an extended period of time at the resort, a Nyepi stay package is available for two nights. With a reservation at the elegant Deluxe room is a complimentary upgrade to the luxurious Premiere room.

Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay

If you ever wonder what meals are served in Balinese households during Nyepi, then you are in for a treat with this special cooking class prepared especially to “spice up” the Day of Silence celebrations, only at Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. To get a taste of Nyepi favourites, guests can learn from Head Chef Kristya Yudha at Jala Cooking Academy, which is located inside the traditional village ambience within Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. As Balinese will need dishes that lasts longer, Chef Kris will be sharing recipes like tum be siap, minced chicken with local spices wrapped in banana leaf, and botok nangka, chopped young jackfruit with wild ginger sauce.
